Siborg's latest LCR and ESR-meter is the LCR-Reader-MP. This device offers a better than 0.1% basic accuracy, more test modes and a 100 kHz test frequency for 1 nH resolution for inductance measurements and 0.01 for capacitance. The MP device offers more test features than Smart Tweezers ST-1, including an oscilloscope mode, AC/DC voltage measurments, signal generation, pulse counting, and more.
The oscilloscope mode allows LCR-Reader-MP to analyze wave-forms with frequencies up to 100 kHz on active circuit boards. When used with the LCR-Reader Kelvin Probe Connector, LCR-Reader-MP is able to check wave forms at various nodes on the PCB. The Kelvin Probe Connector allows MP to measure components larger than the tweezers' would normally allow.
LCR-Reader MP is useful for measuring large capacitances up to 600 mF. According to regular electrolytic capacitor test conditions, electrolytic capacitors are measured at 100 Hertz with the ESR measured at 100 kHz. When MP is set to 'Large Capacitance' mode, it will automatically reduce the test frequency to 25 Hertz which allows the device to measure with reasonable accuracy. The device also offers a wide range of test frequencies for optimal test conditions: 25, 100, 120 Hz, 1, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 75 and 100 kHz.
The device does have some negatives, mainly a high test signal source resistance of 1 kOhm and a maximum test signal level of 0.65 Vrms. The test signal level may cause innaccuracies when measuring some ceramic capacitors, leading to lower than actual values.
LCR-Reader-MP is 2 oz., twice the weight and nearly double the size of LCR-Reader and Smart Tweezers ST-5S. This allows for a larger screen with better visability, especially for small icons.
